Largo, FL – 6/17/2026
John Fay, a candidate for Congress in Florida’s 13th Congressional District proposes the Food Prices and Fairness Act, one of several bills he has drafted to help communities across Florida. The legislation aims to increase safety when it comes to food safety standards, practice clean food fundamentals among food providers, and make essential food items more affordable.
This proposal would address concerns many Floridians may have regarding food safety standards and food quality. By strengthening food safety oversight, promoting clean-food practices, and increasing public awareness, the legislation aims to improve confidence in Florida’s food system.
The Food Prices And Fairness Act would establish voluntary training for food producers to practice clean and safe food protocols. The legislation would also create a grant program to help food producers transition to the new protocols.
The act would also plan to increase support for food safety auditors through worklevel initiatives. It would also seek to improve recruitment and retention by encouraging expanded benefits such as student loan repayment opportunities, and greater workplace flexibility. The act would initiate education programs for the public to improve understanding of food safety, food labeling, ingredient disclosures, and consumer protections.
“The food that keeps us alive is a matter of national security. Not only the price of food but also its purity,” said John Fay. “We regulate…. who can drive on the roads, who’s allowed to do nails or cut hair. But control the price of food oh no, don’t you dare.”
The statement highlights the issues over the affordability of food in today’s world. The proposal aims to address these issues by strengthening food safety standards through new training programs, producer education, and improved transparency across the food system.
The Food Prices and Fairness Act would encourage food safety by educating food providers to engage in cleaner food production practices and improve the food production system in Florida. These measures are to help aid and support Florida families all across the state so that the publics confidence can be restored.
