Supporting our Veterans

Too many veterans return home to face challenges alone, including accessing healthcare, securing stable housing, and finding employment. Those who served our country deserve reliable support systems that ensure they can transition successfully into civilian life and live with dignity.

A Better Way for Florida’s Veterans

Our veterans have sacrificed enough. The men and women who served our country should never be forced to go hungry, struggle alone, or suffer in silence after returning home. Yet here in Florida, policies have stripped veterans of critical SNAP eligibility waivers they once depended on, while millions across the country continue to lack adequate access to mental health care and support services.

At A Better Way, we believe supporting veterans means more than speeches and slogans — it means taking action to restore dignity, opportunity, and stability for those who served.

John and the A Better Way campaign are committed to putting veterans before politics and investing directly in the people who defended this country.

Policy Priorities

Restore SNAP Eligibility Protections for Veterans

Veterans should not lose access to food assistance because they are trying to rebuild their lives through education or part-time work.

A Better Way supports reinstating the SNAP work-requirement waiver for veterans, restoring the exemption that previously allowed veterans to qualify for food assistance without meeting the rigid 20-hour-per-week work requirement — including veterans enrolled full-time in school.

We recognize that a veteran working 15 hours a week while attending school full-time is already working hard to create a better future and should not be punished with food insecurity.

Strengthening Veteran Readiness & Employment

Veterans transitioning into civilian life deserve strong support systems that prioritize both career development and mental wellness.

Our campaign supports expanding funding for Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) programs with a dedicated focus on mental health services, ensuring veterans receive the tools, counseling, and support necessary to successfully navigate life after service.

Putting Veterans Before Corporate Profits

For too long, massive corporations and defense contractors have profited while many veterans continue struggling to access basic necessities and healthcare.

A Better Way believes taxpayer resources should prioritize the people who served — not corporate munitions manufacturers benefiting from endless subsidies. We support redirecting unnecessary corporate defense subsidies toward direct veteran support programs, mental health resources, education opportunities, and housing assistance.

Restoring Dignity Through Action

Supporting veterans is not a partisan issue — it is a moral responsibility. Every veteran deserves respect, opportunity, healthcare, and the ability to live with dignity after serving this country.

A Better Way is committed to fighting for policies that put veterans and their families first and ensuring no one who served America is forgotten when they come home.
