The price of food has spiked above and beyond normal inflation rates while food companies report record-breaking profits. When a large corporation reports an increase in profits to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, while the people of Florida are watching every dollar they earn, it is time to come together to say enough is enough.
Food is a matter of national security. If we can regulate electricity and water, we can stop price gouging on food. Nobody is against a company earning a fair profit - but groceries are not luxury items, they are a necessity.
Slowly increasing prices in the name of greed until families can barely afford the basics is unacceptable. With John’s leadership, we will take a stand and advocate for a better way.
Taxes on our senior citizens have gotten out of hand. With inflation hitting every part of life, we need to protect those most deserving - the people who have spent their entire lives paying taxes.
Income taxes on those over 65 are unnecessary. Meanwhile, large corporations avoid taxes entirely. When a company generates $500 million in sales and reports $500 million in expenses, there is room for a flat tax - regardless of whether they “show” a profit.
Affordability touches every part of life. Rent, mortgages, health insurance, car insurance - everything has become more expensive. Tariffs have also contributed to rising costs.
Health services and insurance rates have climbed consistently for the past decade. Introducing caps on prescriptions and hospital visits, and establishing independent price regulators, can help match costs seen in other modern nations.
Funding social work and mental health coaches - accessible like public libraries - would support millions of Americans and strengthen community well‑being.
Housing costs continue to rise, putting pressure on families across Florida. Addressing affordability requires balanced policy, fair lending practices, and support for first‑time homebuyers.
Protecting K‑12 students online is essential. Strengthening digital safety standards and ensuring schools have the tools to safeguard children is a top priority.
Improving food quality standards to match Europe’s benchmarks, shifting subsidies from sugar and corn to healthier crops, and supporting producers in transitioning to whole‑food practices will strengthen our food system.
Americans can disagree without becoming enemies. A renewed commitment to dignity, respect, and civil discourse is essential for a healthy democracy.
Each school district should maintain control over its curriculum while being empowered to teach emotional intelligence, character development, self‑control, goal‑setting, and financial literacy - skills that prepare students for real life.
